This past week we've been dodging the weather...but still getting out to have some adventures.
We wanted to spend a day in nearby Perugia just walking around without any real plans...just to see how the day played out.
I say this because we have always come to this capitol city of Umbria for a reason...mostly to see an art exhibition. We always enjoy these visits, but when we leave we always wish we'd had time to just explore the city...so that's what we did this time.
The first big surprise was when we drove into the area where usually we park to catch the mini-metro into town.... SURPRISE! There was a massive carnival taking up all the regular parking spaces...yikes! Thankfully, we found a spot to park, so we meandered around to take in the rides....
Sadly, the rides weren't yet open....in fact we seemed to be the only folks walking around. It was pretty surreal....
A ride after my own heart....
Oh, I was so curious about this one!
No way I would go in there.
We found our way to the mini metro and headed up the hill to the historic center of town.
It's fun to ride the mini metro!
Once in town, we just started walking around. We tried to find streets we'd never been down before...it was easy, since we usually stay in the main center of this beautiful city.
It was a pretty day to be in Perugia.
The views are always amazing...
The clouds! We didn't get rained on, thankfully...
Johnny in another life....
Of course we stopped for an early Prosecco...
Nice.
We just wandered around, no real plan...we were lucky to have a nice day to see this lovely city in all her glory.
We didn't want a sit down lunch, so we were happy to find a little hole in the wall with really good "torta al testo"...a typical sandwich of this area.
We split one with soft cheese, tomato and arugula. It was warm, crispy and good!
One of the best we've had!
After our little snack, we just kept walking around, no particular place to go...just wandering....
Another great view over the town.
Walking off our lunch....
I'm pretty sure we walked from one end of town to the other.
I love all the colors of the buildings here in Italy.
One of the several portals into the city.
We loved getting lost in areas we hadn't seen before. Well, you can't really get lost, but it was nice to try.
The clouds were amazing all day.
Winding up at the end of the day...a last stop for wine and this colorful view.
A bit tired from a long day of walking...but satisfied!
After taking the metro back down to our car, we couldn't resist walking back through the carnival, which was just opening up it's rides...
No way!!!
Yeah, I'm not a fan of carnival rides, but they sure are fun to watch!
Back to the car and heading home...just as the sun was going down.
My next post will be about an amazing church we visited while in Perugia...stay tuned!
