Some Venice Love

Johnny and I look at each other and can't believe we've been able to do this...again. We clink our glasses of wine and giggle a bit.
Why not? Loads of hard work and prioritizing our lives...for years now...makes it our very special reality. So happy to be back in Venice.

There seem to be two camps on Venice. You either hate it because it's crowded, it 'smells' (really?), it's overpriced...whatever...
  OR
You love it..because IT'S VENICE, for god's sake.
We are in the second camp.

Returning is a dream....We arrived a few days ago, and the weather was overcast, but still made for a beautiful first trip up the Grand Canal-

Ready.

It's hard not to miss Lorenzo Quinn's work, "Support", as you cruise by...

Like so much of this years works,
"Support" is about the effects of climate change on our
poor old world...

Damien Hirst is also on view on the Canal, though the exhibition has gotten some very bad reviews. We'll be seeing it today...

Our apartment is crazy-cool, but we are spending so little time in it! We are out early and back after many long hours...First evening we walked all around the city.
We were able to get a photo taken by some nice strangers who wanted their's taken, too. Always nice.

Someone told us we had to climb to the top of the Fondaco dei Tedeschi, (a sort of shopping mall on steroids, which we didn't like at all) to see the views.
It was worth skirting through the hoards of tourists buying hoards of overpriced and unnecessary stuff.

Skip the shopping and just enjoy the views...

"Support" in the middle there.

We are not going hungry, that's for sure. We are doing our favorite thing, popping into cichetti bars for small bites and small glasses of wine.

Platters of yummy small tidbits...love!

Eggplant and mozzarella stuffed rice ball.
Fried. Yes.

A perfect cheese plate for two.

Another good spot.

Sweet and sour pickled onions with egg?
Why not. So damn good.

These wonderful neighborhood hangouts are all over Venice.

Green beans and roasted potatoes from one place.

Walking off all we eat everyday means we walk all day and night.
In reality, it gets dark here by about 5:30, so we are still eating our way around town...

No one around at night.
Delightful.

We did see some pretty high water on day two...they refer to this as 'aqua alto'.
High water. It happens with a high tide combined with the full moon...

But for now, the sun is coming out and we need to get out of bed and go for another day.
I have to catch the internet when it's good. 6-7am seems to be a good time.
The apartment has a door on the small canal, and we've been enjoying having it open in the mornings, now that the weather is better-

The apartment from the canal.
Bedroom is the second floor.

Johnny watches a boat go by.

Pretty damn sweet.

Ok, time to get out there for real now.
I'll post about some of my favorite art we've seen soon-
  In the meantime:
