Johnny had quite the list of museums to visit on this trip to Paris. It is the main thing we are doing two museums a day, for the most part.
We had not been back since the renovation of the Picasso Museum, so that was the first one on the list this trip.
The exhibition on now is about the relationship between the artworks of the two men.
It is a 'Call and Respond' type of show. In this case the curator has designed a show which relates the works of these two powerhouse artists together.
I was quite spellbound by it all.
A cheerful piece outside the museum from Calder. |
I loved the Calder sculptures, as well as his mobiles. Seeing the pieces together with the Picasso works was a real treat.
Picasso painting, with a gorgeous wooden sculpture by Calder, celebrates the organic forms. |
Wooden forms on wire from Calder... |
...right beside the whimsical 'bull' by Picasso. Yes, that would be handle bars and seat from an old bicycle...transformed. A playful yet serious piece. |
My favorite pairing, by far, are these two works, below. I can't get over how much they suit each other.
It's as though one artist said to the other "Take this and recreate it in your own way". I guess, in a way, all artists say "Take this and recreate it your own way"...
Calder. |
Picasso. |
The museum is such a beautiful building to walk through. The floors, windows, ceilings...just gorgeous.
Mister J getting up close to soak it all in. |
The two paintings of each of the artist's studios were also a great duo.
Calder |
Picasso. |
We were so pleased to be able to see this show.
For me, this has been a highlight, so far.
This.. With a touch of color, curated with a deft hand, indeed. A display showing the art of the curator. |
Calder looking outstanding in this space! |
Another fine pairing. A balance of two Master Artists. |
The true pleasure for me....seeing my husband doing what he loves to do.
As I write this blog, we are almost ready to leave Paris, but I will still be exploring more from this visit in posts to come!
THANKS FOR THIS. Gotta go. What other wonderful museums are you visiting!
ReplyDeleteI hope this is still up in April & May when we are there. I loved this space and took many photos of the stairwells and out the windows.
